Wyoming State Flower: Indian Paintbrush
Fine silver Scarlet paintbrush, Castilleja miniata, Douglas ex Hook.
This year has introduced me to a new passion in plants and flowers, especially Native varieties. I was able to "check off" of my bucket list trips this summer floating the Middle Fork of The Salmon. Wow! Many of my new designs were inspired, one way or another, by this trip.
The most common paintbrush in Idaho, growing at all elevations to well above tree-line. The red bracts (upper leaves) each have two small lateral projections—an identifying feature. David Douglas first collected the plant in Oregon’s Blue Mountains.
Includes an 18" Sterling Chain. You can choose a longer Sterling chain in the "options" menu at checkout or Stainless Steel Chain.
Stainless gives a little more rustic and organic feel in the chains and is a great option. I like to layer necklaces with both sterling and steel using stainless for longer layers. It has a bit of a matte finish and is somewhat darker than sterling. (See my example of layering pic).
